Obturator Internus

  • Originates from the inside of the front of the pelvis at the obturator foramen

  • Inserts into the femur at the greater trochanter

  • It rotates the hip into external rotation, stabilizes the hip joint and abducts a flexed thigh

  • Innervated by the Nerve to Obturator Internus from spinal segments L5 and S1

Piriformis

  • Originates from the front side of the sacrum and the sacrotuberous ligament

  • Inserts into the femur at the greater trochanter

  • It rotates the hip into external rotation, stabilizes the hip joint, and abducts a flexed thigh.

  • Innervated by the Nerve to Piriformis from spinal segments S1 and S2
